What's the schedule like for peer educators? Current 淫妻社 student in good academic standing Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher Earned at least a 鈥淏鈥� at UAH for the course(s) you support Tutors must qualify for a minimum of 4-5 courses from their program at UAH PASS Leaders and LAs must be available to attend class meetings for the course they support Reliable, responsible, and punctual Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills When's the best time to apply? To give yourself the best chance of being considered, try to apply by the priority deadlines鈥攖ypically the end of March for fall openings and the end of October for spring openings. If positions open up outside those main hiring windows, we鈥檒l still review applications and reach out if there鈥檚 a good fit. So feel free to apply whenever you鈥檙e ready! When should I expect to hear back after I apply? We only contact applicants selected for an interview, based on current openings and how well your major, coursework, and application fit the role. All peer educators start with pre-service training before the semester begins. Before we meet in person, you鈥檒l complete a few short online modules to learn the basics of your role. After that, you鈥檒l meet weekly in small groups with other Tutors, PASS Leaders, or LAs to keep growing your skills and supporting each other. Training is hands-on and discussion-based鈥攜ou鈥檒l practice skills, connect with other student workers, and ask questions in a supportive environment. All training is required鈥攁nd yes, you get paid for all of it! What are the similarities and differences between the peer educator roles at the SSC? All of our student worker roles help support the success of their fellow Chargers, build connections with students and staff, develop strong communication and leadership skills, and participate in regular training. However, each role has its own focus and responsibilities: Tutors Support multiple courses within their program of study Work with students one-on-one or in small groups Set individualized goals with students in the session PASS Leaders Support one course Attend class lectures Lead collaborative group study sessions outside of class Plan sessions ahead of time Learning Assistants Support designated sections of Calculus I Assist with learning during class time Meet weekly with the instructor and fellow LA for the class Can I have more than one position in the SSC? We want you to feel confident in your role, so you鈥檒l start with one position during your first semester. After that, you may be considered for additional roles within the SSC as opportunities become available. There are several ways to grow your skills and take on new responsibilities: Take on a second role in another SSC program PASS Mentor or Lead Tutor: Assist with training, observations, and special projects Academic Coach or BLUE Group Facilitator: Guide students in building academic skills Spokesperson: Assist with filming videos and creating content for the SSC Canvas page and social media Office Assistant: Support the daily operations of the SSC Can I work in the SSC if I have another on-campus job? Absolutely! Students are allowed to have more than one on-campus job, as long as the combined hours don鈥檛 exceed 29 hours per week. For international students, the limit is 20 hours per week, following visa requirements. How do I become an Academic Coach? Academic Coaches are experienced tutors who have worked with us for at least one semester. Once you鈥檝e gained that experience, you鈥檒l have the chance to step into a coaching role where you鈥檒l work with students to develop their academic and self-management skills. You鈥檒l complete additional training to build on what you鈥檝e already learned as a tutor鈥攈elping you grow your skills even more! What does the Office Assistant role look like? Office Assistants help keep the SSC running smoothly by greeting visitors, answering calls, managing appointments, and handling day-to-day office tasks Work 6-12 hours/week Start at $11/hr, with the chance to earn up to $13/hr as you gain experience What if I have more questions?
